Smart Meters: Cost or Benefit?
One of Julia Gillard’s proposed power solutions has sparked furious political debate, after she claimed that smart meters could save households as much as $250 a year on their power bill.
The Opposition has responded with scepticism, arguing that smart meters may actually push up prices.
In fact, the Productivity Commission report on smart meters suggests they can save consumers $100 to $250 a year, but it also says that, done wrongly, smart meters could end up costing them money.
